Australia's National Children's Choir - Gondwana Voices

Gondwana Voices

Gondwana Voices, Australia's national children's choir is operated and managed by Gondwana Voices Limited.

Our training equips children to perform at the highest professional level of music making in the country. These children are not necessarily training to be future singers, they are training to be artist musicians with a broad understanding of the arts in general and a rich appreciation of Australian culture.

The mission of Gondwana Voices is to develop a unique Australian choral voice whilst providing training and opportunity for talented young Australians to perform with innovation and excellence alongside artists of the highest calibre in Australia and throughout the world.

Excellence, accessibility, pride, professionalism and caring are the core values of Gondwana Voices.

Excellence
To ensure that young people have the opportunities to fulfill their musical potential by offering them the highest level of training and a chance to collaborate with their talented peers from across Australia and the world.

Accessibility
Where possible, to ensure that any suitably talented child has the opportunity to participate in our programs without financial, social, physical or distance barriers.

Pride
To continue to develop our unique Australian repertoire of works as diverse as the Australian population and to encourage choristers to participate in composition and the creation of new works.

Professionalism
To offer young people the skills and opportunities to succeed in a professional environment with the very finest artists in Australia across a broad range of art forms.

Caring
To provide a happy and a safe environment in which young people can learn, perform, socialise and flourish

Gondwana National Choral Program

Gondwana Chorale is rapidly developing a profile and a program of activities to match the more established Gondwana Voices. Within this choir, former members of Gondwana Voices and new choristers can take their singing to a new level of choral excellence. The Gondwana Chorale is an SATB Choir for young women aged 16 - 21 and young men and boys aged 14 - 21. The Gondwana Chorale is a chance to build on the skills learnt with Gondwana Voices, make music at the highest level, be inspired, have fun and maintain friendships forged during previous Gondwana activities. A perfect way to continue your Gondwana experience! 2009 conductors are Principal Guest Conductor Paul Holley, Director of the award winning Brisbane Birralee Blokes and Guest Conductor Claire Preston from the Victorian College of the Arts and they will be joined by pianist Ben van Tienen.

Gondwana Voices is internationally acclaimed as one of the world’s finest children’s choirs and is made up of young singers aged 10 to 16 from every state and territory in Australia. Formed in 1997 Gondwana Voices performs with Australia’s leading music ensembles (such as the Australian Chamber Orchestra), undertakes major international tours (such as the 2007 tour to Canada, France and the BBC Proms), performs in major national events (such as the Melbourne Commonwealth Games opening and closing ceremonies) and records for ABC Classics. 2009 conductors are Artistic Director & Founder, Lyn Williams OAM and Principal Guest Conductor Mark O’Leary, Artistic Director and Founder of Young Voices of Melbourne and they will be joined by pianist Sally Whitwell.

Junior Gondwana is for the many children aged 10 to 14 who love singing and show strong musical potential but have not previously had the opportunity to develop their musical ability to the degree required for Gondwana Voices. Many Junior Gondwana members have gone on to sing in Gondwana Voices in subsequent years. 2009 conductors are Prue Ashurst, West Australia’s best loved music educator and choral conductor and Dan Walker one of Australia’s most exciting young conductors, composers and performers and they will be joined by pianist Luke Byrne.
